Along the way, rock- and those related styles such as rap and R&B that have fed off and also fused back into rock’s continuing development-has gone global.
A sound that was once regional, confined to a few southern cities and heard in rural juke joints, has matured, absorbing and being influenced by every conceivable style from jazz to Gregorian chant to African drumming. It can be heard on the radio, in television advertisements, movies, restaurants, and shopping malls. Ock music is the dominant sound of the modern age.
